Uniqueness in potential scattering with reduced data

We consider inverse potential scattering problems where the source of the incident waves is located on a smooth closed surface outside of the inhomogeneity of the media. The scattered waves are measured on the same surface at a fixed value of the energy. We show that these data determine the bounded potential uniquely.     

Calderón problem for connections

In this paper, we consider the problem of identifying a connection ? on a vector bundle up to gauge equivalence from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map of the connection Laplacian ?*? over conformally transversally anisotropic (CTA) manifolds. This was proved in [9 Dos Santos Ferreira, D., Kenig, C., Salo, M., Uhlmann, G. (2009). Limiting Carleman weights and anisotropic inverse problems. Invent. Math. 178:119–171.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]] for line bundles in the case of the transversal manifold being simple—we generalize this result to the case where the transversal manifold only has an injective ray transform. Moreover, the construction of suitable Gaussian beam solutions on vector bundles is given for the case of the connection Laplacian and a potential, following the works of [11 Dos Santos Ferreira, D., Kurylev, Y., Lassas, M., Salo, M. (2016). The Calderón problem in transversally anisotropic geometries. J. Eur. Math. Soc., 18:2579–2626.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]]. This in turn enables us to construct the Complex Geometrical Optics (CGO) solutions and prove our main uniqueness result. We also reduce the problem to a new non-abelian X-ray transform for the case of simple transversal manifolds and higher rank vector bundles. Finally, we prove the recovery of a flat connection in general from the DN map, up to gauge equivalence, using an argument relating the Cauchy data of the connection Laplacian and the holonomy.

Solubility of phenobarbital in aqueous cosolvent mixtures revisited: IKBI preferential solvation analysis

The preferential solvation parameters of phenobarbital in aqueous binary mixtures of 1,4-dioxane, t-butanol, n-propanol, ethanol, propylene glycol and glycerol were derived from solution thermodynamic properties by using the IKBI method. This drug is sensitive to preferential solvation effects in all these mixtures. The preferential solvation parameter by the cosolvent (δx_1,3) is negative in almost all the water-rich mixtures but positive in mixtures with similar proportions of solvents and cosolvent-rich mixtures, except in 1-propanol + water mixtures, where negative values are also found in mixtures with x₁ ≥ 0.70. Hydrophobic hydration around the non-polar ethyl and phenyl groups of this drug in water-rich mixtures could play a relevant role in drug solvation. Otherwise, in mixtures of similar solvent compositions and in cosolvent-rich mixtures the preferential solvation by cosolvent could be due to the acidic behaviour of the drug.     

Quasi-compact operator,pseudo-essential spectra and some perturbation results

In this paper, we use the concept of quasi-compact operators, as a generalization of the class of Riesz operators, to improve the definition of the pseudo-Schechter essential spectrum of a closed densely defined operator acting on Banach space. Moreover, we discuss the incidence of some perturbation results on the behavior of pseudo-essential spectra of the sum of two bounded linear operators.     

On primeness of general skew inverse Laurent series ring

Ever since the introduction, skew inverse Laurent series rings have kept growing in importance, as researchers characterized their properties (such as Noetherianness, Armendarizness, McCoyness, etc.) in terms of intrinsic properties of the base ring and studied their relations with other fields of mathematics, as for example quantum mechanics theory. The goal of our paper is to study the primeness and semiprimeness of general skew inverse Laurent series rings R((x^?1;σ,δ)), where R is an associative ring equipped with an automorphism σ and a σ-derivation δ.     

TV‐like regularization for backward parabolic problems

This paper investigates an inverse problem for parabolic equations backward in time, which is solved by total‐variation‐like (TV‐like, in abbreviation) regularization method with cost function ∥u_x∥². The existence, uniqueness and stability estimate for the regularization problem are deduced in the linear case. For numerical illustration, the variational adjoint method, which presents a simple method to derive the gradient of the optimization functional, is introduced to reconstruct the unknown initial condition for both linear and nonlinear parabolic equations. The conjugate gradient method is used to iteratively search for the optimal approximation. Numerical results validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Some inverse problems for the nonlocal heat equation with Caputo fractional derivative

A class of inverse problems for restoring the right‐hand side of a fractional heat equation with involution is considered. The results on existence and uniqueness of solutions of these problems are presented.
